Why Go on a Hayride?
What is a mule? A mule is a cross between a female horse and a male donkey. What is the difference between hay and straw? Hay is grass that is mowed and allowed to dry in the sun. Then it is packed into bales and fed to equines as well as to a number of other kinds of livestock. Straw is the dried stem of a wheat, oat, barley or rye plant. These stalks are packed into bales and used as bedding for livestock. What is hay fever? The term "hay fever" harks back to historical accounts of sneezing, nasal congestion and itchy, watery eyes associated with harvesting hay from the fields. Down through the years "hay fever" has become a catch-all phrase for nasal allergies in response to airborne substances such as pollen, mold or dust. Actually the phrase "hay fever" is misleading because hay accounts for a very small proportion of allergies. Furthermore, these conditions do not cause fever. PHOTO GALLERY |
